DJ's Clam Shack Garlic Shrimp Scampi Roll

Hi All, I am back after my hiatus with a review that deviates from anything I have ever done. This will be my first review of a sit down restaurant outside of SBU. I went to the critically acclaimed DJ's Clam Shack (featured on Guy Fieri's Drivers Diners and Dives (and now Adrian Best Food Reviews)). This iconic chain opened a location within walking distance and I was thrilled to finally enjoy some actual food! The menu was surprisingly small but the Garlic Shrimp Scampi Roll immediately stood out to me.

The wait was short and passed quickly with the fine selection of country music playing in the establishment. The decor was enthralling; windows lined with Styrofoam buoys, all metal furnishings, and the silly clam logo peering at you from all the napkin dispensers. It all contributed to the shacky feel of the place. Before long the food came served in classic white and red checkered paper and plastic trays.

I had ordered and tried the onion rings, garlic bread, and the titular main course. The garlic bread was heavenly and the onion rings were favorable but that is not why I have stolen your attention.

At first glance I was a little disappointed. Clearly stated in the menu is the word "roll" yet the succulent jumbo garlic shrimp were bounded by two slices of bread that simply were not fully separate. Despite no roll being present in my Garlic Shrimp Scampi Roll this earns a high score in presentation as the bread was a nice golden brown and it was joined with a number of hurriedly tossed lemon slices.

Upon inspection I only found six shrimps in my meal, even during these times a $14 price tag warrants more than six pieces of the scrumptious crustaceans. This unfortunately earned this meal a very low score on the price category and brought down the overall rating of this meal by a considerable margin.

The aroma of this meal went unnoticed at first but when brought within striking range of my maw its delicious mouthwatering scent was revealed. So while not strong the pleasant smell earned a high score in this category.

First biting into the sandwich I was overcome by the perfection in which my teeth glided through the soft buttery bread and found the quintessential veiny flesh of the shrimp. The two together were a first rate match made in the annals of culinary history. It goes without saying that it earned a very high score in this category.

The sandwich was very buttery but was no overwhelming. The bread absorbed the butter and garlic which gave the entire thing a wonderful taste. The taste was very much in the name and quite inexplicable. Shrimp is definitely one of my favorite seafoods and garlic is my favorite seasoning, so it comes as no surprise that this scores very high on taste.

The nutritional value of this meal is low. It tasted fatty but had some carbs and protein. Overall, this meal scores 7.18. The low cost score brought down the overall score considerably since it scored high on nearly every other category. I'll see you guys on the next review, hopefully I can keep these reviews going!!!
