Rawley's Drive In Cheeseburger and Chili Cheese Fries Review

I took the metro-north railroad to Fairfield, CT to go to Rawley's Drive in, a small joint which is about a 10 minute walk from the train station. I was originally planning to get a hot dog but then realized that a regular hot dog cost over $4 and so I got a burger and chili cheese fries instead. I waited for a bit in this small dimly lit room with hot dog curtains. The owner really did achieve their goal of emulating a classic roadside food shack. I received my burger after using their restroom and bit into it before realizing I had to review my meal. Usually I only take into account one part of the meal but this time I will be reviewing the meal as a whole.

Firstly, the burger was presented on a simple red tray in a bun that appeared to be a roll. The fries were drenched in chili and cheese as promised. Overall, the presentation of the meal was not just simple but downright lackluster. What did bring the score up was the atmosphere in the establishment. This meal receives a 5 for presentation.

The texture of this meal, especially the fries, was amazing. I thought the roll would be dry based upon its appearance but it was deceivingly pleasant as it was also soft and thin. The fries were something else, with a crispy skin just enough salt on it to feel the granules and a chewy inside they were great. The chili and cheese would soften them up but it would not turn to mush. This gets a 10 for texture.

The aroma of this meal was overpowered by the chili and cheese which had a smooth decent smell. Could have been better but the meal scores an 8 for aroma. As this is a greasy diner meal the nutritional value was not very high but it did have all the food groups so it scores a 4.

The taste of the food was good. The burger was solid, the veggies were fresh, the cheese was provolone which was welcome as I was expecting a Kraft single. As I mentioned the fries were very salted which worked for the texture but they were a little too salty for the taste. Striking that balance is difficult. The chili was great but there was quite a lot of cheese which overwhelmed the taste. Overall this gets an 8 for taste.

The cost of this meal was $11 which was not very cheap but I went into this meal at 3pm with only a piece of toast for breakfast and I was satisfyingly full afterwards making the meal have a good cost to fullness ratio. Thus I give this meal a 7 for cost.

And with that the overall score for this meal is a 7.5.
