Capitol Dog Combo Review

During lunch one day I chose to visit the Capitol City Center food court. On the second floor, there were about 7 food court style restaurants. Only 2 of them were open: a sandwich/coffee shop and Capitol Dog. Capitol Dog intrigued me and I spent some time reviewing their menu. I realized that this is the type of family establishment where the child comes to work and cleans the counters.
I elected to try Capitol Dog and ordered a two dog combo choosing theTexas and New York dogs.

The Texas dog comes equipped with mustard, chili, and onions while the New York dog is equipped with mustard and sauerkraut. The dogs came out on a plate and tray with some salt and pepper packets on some napkins next to a fork and knife. I pocketed the fork and knife as they would not be necessary for this meal and proceeded to open the salt and pepper packets sprinkling their contents onto the fries. I was quite hungry so I began to immediately eat some of the fries. I then started with the Texas dog. The general presentation of the meal was lackluster. Indeed, I started to doubt the choices that brought me here today. Presentation wise this scores a 2. Nevertheless, I picked up the Texas dog and gave it a sniff. It smelled quite good and received a 7 for aroma. Biting into the dog was not dissimilar to my experiences with other dogs on this board. The chili was quite watery which made the bread too mushy as it started to fall apart. Given that and the standard texture of the rest of the dog this earns a 3 in texture. The taste was actually great. The onions and mustard worked with the well seasoned chili to make the dollar store bun and dog taste quite delicious. This earns an 8 for taste. The dog most likely was not very nutritious but most of the food groups were represented so it scores a 4 in nutrition. The cost of the overall meal was $8.50 so each dog was quite cheap, probably between $2-3. Thus, this scores an 8 for cost. Overall, the Texas dog scored a 6.17.

Texas:

Taste: 8

Texture: 3

Aroma: 7

Cost: 8

Nutrition: 4

Presentation: 2

Total: 6.17

I then proceeded to work on the New York dog. The sauerkraut was overflowing but I managed to get a bite without soiling my work outfit. The dog was decently tasty but the sauerkraut was quite flavorless and the bun left much to be desired. The mustard ended up taking over the taste of this dog and therefore it only scores a 5 in taste. The sauerkraut was also very wet and made the dog soggy so for texture this scores a 3. The vinegary sauerkraut gave this a slightly unpleasant smell but it was not strong so for aroma this scores a 4. Like mentioned previously this dog was cheap and therefore it receives an 8 in cost. The nutrition score of this dog is higher than due to the massive amounts of sauerkraut present so it scores a 5 in nutrition. This dog suffers some of the same drawbacks for presentation as the Texas dog so it receives a 2 in that category. Overall, the New York dog scored a 5.

New York:

Taste: 5

Texture: 3

Aroma: 4

Cost: 8

Nutrition: 5

Presentation: 2

Total: 5

While the Texas dog was better than the New York dog, I do not think I would be returning to this establishment. The meal was very filling and not too expensive but it was much too messy to eat as an office lunch and there are better options nearby.
